Plasma polymerisation

« Back to Glossary Index

Coating method involving polymerisation using a plasma of organic molecules and deposit on the surface. To the extent that plasma polymerisation involves breaking chemical bonds in a monomer, it is possible to polymerise saturated compounds. Generally, polymers deposited by plasma are characterised by an irregular structure and chemical interaction that is superior to polymers synthesised in the liquid phase. This technique is used for numerous applications, such as to create hydrophobic or hydrophilic barriers.
