Optical coating

« Back to Glossary Index

Coating deposited to improve the optical characteristics of different materials. Properties such as reflectiveness, the refraction index, absorption in infrared, etc. The most common materials for these coatings are oxides of vanadium, aluminium, tantalum, silicon, etc. They may be simply deposited as a single layer or in multiple layers. The use of RF plasma is very common in chemical phase deposit systems (CVD) or plasma-assisted vacuum spraying.
