Acronym designating microelectronic systems combining mechanics and electronics (micro-electronic-mechanical system). On the same semiconductor chip, the following may be simultaneously present: microprocessors, valves, mirrors, sensors, etc. MEMS are, for example, used in airbag deceleration sensors; they can lower costs and increase reliability.
