Hydrophilic

Characterises the affinity of a matter with water. This phenomenon is caused by the presence of polar groups which interact with the strongly polar molecules of water. Molecules also exist for which part is hydrophilic and another part is hydrophobic, for example, in detergents. This configuration is crucial to obtain the cleaning effect.
