Fluorescent tube

Discharge in the gaseous phase in a mixture of rare gases, argon and mercury vapour. In the positive part of this discharge, the mercury atom is excited by the impact of electrons and emits radiation in the ultraviolet. A layer of luminescent material inside the tube converts this ultraviolet radiation into visible light.
