Copper

« Back to Glossary Index

Chemical symbol Cu, a shiny red metal that is strong and ductile. Exposed to damp air, copper generates a layer of oxide. In the presence of CO2, SO2, chlorinated products, etc., a greenish patina forms on the surface, protecting the metal from any subsequent corrosion. Due to its chemical stability and good conductivity, copper is very widely used in the electrical industry. It is possible to deposit copper using an electrolytic bath.
