Argon (Ar)

Argon is a neutral gas that is abundant (1% of the earth’s atmosphere). Frequently used as a protective gas due to its total neutrality, it can be used in plasma activation and cleaning techniques. Argon does not react chemically but enables bombardment of impurities and the formation of free radicals on organic surfaces (also see micro-blasting).
