Aluminium

« Back to Glossary Index

Light silvery white metal with very good thermal and electrical properties (symbol Al). In contact with air, aluminium forms a fine layer of stable oxide, which protects from additional oxidation. This layer of oxide may be attacked by alkaline solutions, while an acid solution will attack the oxide and the metal. Aluminium powder is flammable. Aluminium is the light metal that is most used in the form of sheets, structural shapes and moulded parts. Plasma enables good activation on all these surfaces.
